The Making of a Mascot

Well Guys !!

This Time I’ve brought not only something NEW, but also Something BIG for y’all. I alongwith my College NSIT Fine Arts Team, had made an Official Mascot for our College’s Technical Fest : Innovision 2011 few months ago. But this time we’ve decided to make something BIG such that everyone gets to witness how much BIG a MASCOT could be.

Well, Our Senior In-charge of Fine Arts Team, Sraisth Sunny was the guy behind all of this. He just came with a concept of creating a Big Mascot for displaying the visitors at our Fest. He draw a simple rough sketch of mascot giving us an idea and even asked us some changes. Me and my Year-mates, Arjun Paul and Kavyaraj Naik, have been given responsibility on its making.

After having a look on it, first of all we had to think not only the expected size of Mascot but also about the background colour and the type of Sheet to be used. I’ve seen the technique of Merging Small Sheets into a Large Sheet for making Large Backdrops, for our Cultural Fest : Moksha. That experience really helped us out. After predicting the Mascot Size, we merged 3 full-sized A2 Violet Cartridge Sheets, which crossed to a length around 6 Feet (almost my height :P).

Now it was time to begin with the sketch work. Personally speaking I had a hard time on making that DAMN sketch. As I never made such a Big Sketch on Sheet, It tool me approximately 6 Hours in sketching, alongwith Erasing the Errors and Molding them with Perfection. A Great thanks to my Junior, Gyan Ranjan ,who did a Fantastic job in suggesting me and even re-sketching my errors. He’s indeed a Phenomenal Sketcher.

Well, unfortunately y’all might be unable to see the exact sketching of our Mascot clearly. My Bad photography. 😛 Anyways after finalizing the sketch from Sraisth Sir, its time to apply some colour on our Work. We were still on doubt on the Color Combination of The Mascot as most of the Fine Arts Boys Team was good in Sketching but not in Coloring. 😛 Still we managed somehow and completed the Coloring Work in 2 Hours. And after 8 Hours of Complete Hard Work, the Mascot finally has been made. It’s truly looking like Iron Man, but an Indian Avatar. Take a Look. 😉

Even the Graffiti Board on which this Work has to be pasted, was covered with the same Violet Cartridge Sheet. The Mascot was Pasted on that 10 Foot Long Board. And Gyan did a fabulous job, in painting The Name of our Fest : Innovision (with slogans below) and The The Name of its Mascot : Innyoto (A Wacky Japanese name:P). An ultimately, We’ve got a Complete Poster.

I really thank to my Grand Fine Arts Team, who made this possible. Also a Great Thanks to those people, who saw this piece of Hard Work of ours and appreciated damn well. 🙂
